The 'Salik' toll caused lengthy delays around the Al Barsha area and on Maktoum Bridge yesterday, as drivers attempted to use alternative routes to avoid the new toll gates. However drivers have found that Salik has eased traffic for commuters from Sharjah to Dubai.

I don’t think this is the end, it is only the beginning so if you plan on staying in Dubai, I guess you better get use to it. I have heard that almost 60 Salik gates will be installed all over Dubai. So really only two options, either dump the car and use public transport or move out of your accommodation and live in you car :). This is not particular of Dubai all major cities around the world are adopting such majors to combat traffic congestion.
I don’t know why people keep moaning about everything in Dubai, the Dubai government has been spending billions of dirhams on a big network of roads covering all of Dubai and RTA (Road and Transport Authority) will spend over 40 billion in the next few years on new roads and transportation system (buses and new Metro), the money needs to come from some where, just remember you don’t pay no income tax so how will the government find the money.
There are many factors that contribute to road accidents, but let's not forget drivers are the first people to be blamed. It does not matter how many Salik gates will be installed all over Dubai, people have to follow the traffic rules, and government should pay more attention not to developing Dubai property constructions, but to the regulating traffic laws.
